Your Story Series: Yola

What is your name?

Yola Bergh.

Describe yourself in 3 to 5 words.

Active, outdoorsy, creative.

How did you discover your skin cancer/melanoma and how long ago?

Three years ago I had a wart on my nose that got a little inflamed, so I went to a dermatologist who cauterised it, and he asked me if there was anything else and I said, yes, here on the back of my arm, so he removed it and it turned out to be a melanoma stage 1b.

What is your attitude towards sun protection today?

I’m fastidious about sun protection. Apply block everyday as well as wear Solbari clothes and especially the swimwear and hats. I never wear short sleeves nor shorts or dresses.

What would you tell your 16-year-old self about taking care of your skin and sun protection?

Never go into the sun unprotected, and a tanned look is so not cool!
