Our story
Solbari was born from personal experience and is proudly Australian. Our Founder & CEO, Johanna Young, witnessed the devastating impact of skin cancer and melanoma through her family's experience and her volunteer work with charitable organisations like the Cancer Council.
Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer globally, with 2 in 3 Australians diagnosed by age 70. And yet, many don’t realise that skin cancer is largely preventable and that a regular white cotton t-shirt may only offer as little protection as SPF 5.
Frustrated by the lack of stylish, breathable, sun-safe clothing, Johanna launched Solbari to fill the gap. Every product is made from UPF 50+ rated fabric, has the highest sun protection available, and has been rigorously tested to perform under Australia’s harshest conditions.
Since 2014, we’ve protected over 550,000 customers in 160 countries.
Our purpose goes beyond clothing and sun hats. It's grounded in our bold vision: to end skin cancer in our lifetime.
Why we created Solbari
Prevention is better than cure

The meaning of Solbari
Solbari blends the words solar SOL and barrier BARI, to reflect our mission to shield against harmful UV exposure. More than a name, Solbari stands for a global movement to prevent skin cancer and empower people to thrive under the sun, safely and confidently.
Our logo represents an umbrella, with the letter S and B forming a plus sign, a nod to our UPF 50+ rated fabrics, the highest sun protection rating available in the world.

Not all fabrics are created equal
Rigorously tested under the harsh Australian sun, our UPF 50+ accredited fabrics meet the highest standards for sun protection and comply with USA, Australian, and international fabric rating standards: AS/NZS 4399:2020, ASTM D6544-2012, ASTM D6603-2012, AATCC 183-2014.

Trusted and endorsed by medical experts
The Skin Cancer Foundation and dermatologists recommend sun-protective clothing as the first line of defence against harmful UV rays, with sunscreen playing a supporting role, protecting the areas UPF 50+ clothing doesn't cover.
Solbari products are recommended by dermatologists around the world for their certified UPF 50+ protection and everyday wearability.
